It's About The Music! It's About The Music!

PocoNotes Newsletter 2012-3: December, 2012

It's hard to believe that 2012 is about to step aside and let 2013 have its chance!  Yet, ready or not...it's happening.  So, we'll follow suit with our annual "wrap up" rap.

As many of you know, this adventure was launched to do our small part to make the world a kinder place through music.  So, from the beginning, all of our events were designed around three equally-important components:  our artists, our audiences and our venues...with an emphasis on ensuring that each of them received the respect they deserved.

So, from the top...!

We thank ALL 63 of the artists who have allowed us to be even the smallest part of their creative journeys...and, most recently, those who shared the best part of themselves with us over the past 12 months (alphabetically, of course):  Bret Alexander, Spencer Bohren, Jim Gavenus, Eddie Randazzo, Carol Lehrman Walker...and Toby Walker.  Each, in their turn - and in their own way, brightened our beautiful little corner of the world and changed our lives forever...and for better.  We know that wherever their respective creative roads may take them, they will carry a part of their PocoNotes experience...complete with the memories that all of us created together.  Without a doubt, they left a bit of themselves with us that we will cherish...until the next time!  As they say, if you leave something behind, you are destined to return.

We also thank those of you who came to a show and, as a member of our audience, shared an evening of your lives with us...and allowed our artists to share an evening of theirs with you.  It's beyond humbling to count so many of you among the many blessings we've encountered in this crazy journey.  It seems so long ago that our first goal was to NOT know the first and last name of everyone in our audience.  What COULD we have been thinking?!  Now, it's very best part of any event for us.

Lastly, we want to tell Nada and Michael Gilmartin how much their generous spirit means to us.  As the loving tenders of the Tripp House, they have ALWAYS made us feel welcome and have - on three occasions...and counting - entrusted us with this precious gem of a venue.  As anyone who has been there will attest, it's hard to imagine that those walls have stood - in the same spot - since the late 1700's.  We can only hope WE look that good when we're that old!  ;-)  Actually, the impeccable condition in which we always found the Tripp House (and, hopefully, always left it) is a true testament to Nada, Michael and the other like-minded people who rescued it a mere 31 years ago and restored it to its former glory.  We choose to think that the people of bygone eras who called this their home over the years are smiling at the thought that it is being enjoyed to this day...in this special way - filled with good people and good music.

There are countless hours of planning that go into each PocoNotes event...and since there are just two of us, we could not have managed all that went into our 2012 season without more than a little help from our friends.  So, in no particular order, these are some of the folks to whom we owe a doubt of gratitude for their encouragement and support...Matt Hiller, Maureen Duffy, Bobby Quill, Chad Casterline, Amy Lennon, Sarah Lubrano, ChefJimi Patricola, Lennis Giansante, Tom Graham, Danielle Wayda, Kyle Noone, Joe Ducey, Chris Hughes, Miles Neutts, Liz Baumeister, Kristie Ceruti Grier, Erika Funke, Rene' Cullen, McShane Glover,
Andzia and Wayne Stout, Jolene Mead, Thom Welby, Melanie Thiel, Renae DiPasquale, Jack Gretz, Chris Menichetti, Sara Pokorny, Don McGlynn, Laura Legere, Josh McAuliffe, Jeff Boule, Kari Skrip, Joe Bomrad, Jack Woodbridge, Eddie Appnel, Carol Bouton, Mike Gruber, Linda Dimitrakakis, Jordan Walker, Jeff Jones and Lynn Vala.  How lucky are we!

So, we look forward to seeing you next year with our 2013 version of "The Faces and Voices of The Blues" which, with Roy Book Binder at the helm, may be more geared toward "Hues of The Blues" since his eclectic repertoire includes blues, ragtime, country, bluegrass, folk and popular songs that originated on Tin Pan Alley, as well as some of the most incredible storytelling you will ever hear…anywhere.  Besides, this will give Jim Gavenus a chance to share a wider scope of the amazing photographs he has captured as a photographic journalist at – and behind - some of the finest stages in the music world.  To get a bit more information about Roy and Jim respectively, you can find them at RoyBookBinder.com
and GavenusPhoto.com ...or, of course, on Facebook.

That's it for us in 2012.  We'll see you "
on the road" in 2013...when we present more old friends and some new ones, too.  So many venues...so little time, as they say, but we'll be in a neighborhood somewhere near you - wherever you are.  After all, it’s all about presenting artists you need to know in places you need to see!  Until then, be good to each other...and keep supporting live music - of all flavors!

Remember,
It's Not Perfect, It's Live!!  If you don't believe us, just check out
WNTI-Public Radio from Centenary College at 91.9 FM
on any Friday morning in the 8:00 a.m. hour.  Right, Mel?!  xox

Peace...really!
Dolores & Pat
