It's About The Music! It's About The Music! It's About The Music!

PocoNotes Newsletter 2010-3: June 6, 2010

For those of you who are tuning in for the first time, we will take a moment to introduce ourselves.  For those of you who already know us, well, you can skip ahead - but not too far.  We don't want you to miss anything.

We are Dolores and Pat, two mere mortals...with day jobs and a desire to make the world a better place...in a way that we can - and in a way that matters to us.  We'll proudly give away our age by telling you that we're card-carrying members of the Woodstock generation and, as such, were privy to some of the best live music ever created.  Now, we're on a mission to remind our peers that live music can still be quite "groovy"...even without all the other things for which our era was also notorious.  ;-).

That said, we present musicians that need to be heard (the operative word being "heard") in places that need to be seen...and there is no shortage of those in Lackawanna County, whose deep history and majestic natural and architectural beauty are just some of the reasons that we choose to call Northeastern Pennsylvania our home.

So...we are pleased and honored and thrilled to tell you that we have a(nother) very special event scheduled for Saturday, June 26, 2010, with a musician who is a Scranton native but who, like countless others before him, has pursued his art in New York City...with hundreds of songs, two Off-Broadway scores and a rock opera for National Public Radio - among other successes - to show for it.  Although the story is really his to tell, Jack Woodbridge embarked on a very different journey several years ago when life did what life often does:  it took a drastic turn.  Given ten days to "get his affairs in order" in anticipation of unprecedented spinal surgery and no empirical way to predict its outcome, Jack opted to use the time sharing his fears and his emotions in the best way he knew...through his music.

Perhaps someone was listening...because Jack defied all the odds and his surgery was a miraculous success.  Understandably, though, the emotional turmoil took its toll, and he has been somewhat hesitant about letting go of this very special and personal part of himself.  Until now...when he's entrusted a long-time friend - Duffy Accessories - and a new friend - PocoNotes - to help him with the long-awaited CD release of 'Jack of Hearts' - with its debut performance to be held for his own hometown.

The venue that chose us for this event is the stunningly beautiful St. Luke's Episcopal Church at 232 Wyoming Avenue in Scranton, and is a setting that is truly as inspirational as Jack's powerfully compelling story.  The doors to the event will open at 7:30 p.m. for an 8:00 p.m. grand entrance by Jack that is not to be missed.  However, as Father Peter told us, PocoNotes and Duffy Accessories can plan to arrive early...for 5 o'clock Mass.  (Yes, Father!)

Since intimacy is key, there will be an extremely limited number of tickets available for this show...and they're on sale now by Maureen Duffy, the "Queen of Bling" at Duffy Accessories (218 Linden Street, Scranton) and another like-minded local business owner, Kathie Fox, at The Fanciful Fox (342 Adams Avenue, Scranton).

They're also available directly from us at PocoNotes or through our awesome ticketing partner,
NEPATickets. They're $20 in advance and $25 at the door.  As always, children under 12 are invited to join an accompanying adult as our guests.  It's our way of helping to create special memories across the generations.

Wine (for the adults) and refreshments (for all) will be served after the concert with a 'celebratory toast' to the man and the music that will entertain you for a single evening...and impact you for a lifetime.  It will be a great time to buy an autographed copy of "Jack of Hearts" to have as a reminder of this amazing night of music.  For those of you who would like to buy your copy before the show, they're available now - today, actually - at Duffy Accessories and The Fanciful Fox.

As a thank you for the faith that St. Luke's has placed in us in affording us an opportunity to share this powerful music in their beautiful space, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to them for their use in furthering their on-going, deep commitment to their community.

We know we will see some familiar faces there...and some new ones, too.  Each of you will be a part of something that didn't happen last week and will never happen exactly the same way ever again.  It is, after all, live music!

If you'd like to know more - because there's always more, you can visit us at www.PocoNotes.com to see photos from our prior events...or give us a call at either (888) 800-POCO or (570) 941-0411 and hear the latest.

We look forward to seeing you on June 26th when the doors open at 7:30 p.m.  Be sure to find us and say hello.  Until then...let's all be good to each other, keep supporting live music, and doing our part for peace in 2010 - in whatever order you please!
