It's About The Music! It's About The Music!

PocoNotes Newsletter 2010-2: March 1, 2010

With a mere 20 days until our 2010 launch, here's a quick update on the proverbial "who, what, when, where...and why" - but not necessarily in that order.

The Date...

Saturday, March 20, 2010.  The doors will open at 6:00 p.m., and the show will start at 7:00 p.m.  It wasn't planned to coincide with the first day of Spring, but what better day is there to get out and join other good people for some good music.

The Place...

There's no denying that there is a wealth of incredible talent in the area...and a growing number places to hear live music on any given night of the week.  However, our events are hosted in some of the most incredibly stunning venues you can imagine - and we are so proud that the "hidden gem" for our 2010 season is Scranton's historic Tripp House, which is located at 1011 North Main Avenue - and has been for the past 232 years!!

The Artists...

Joe Crookston & The BlueBird Jamboree with Peter Glanville

When we stumbled upon Joe ourselves just last year, we didn't realize that some worthy critics had already touted his playing as "the most fleet-fingered guitar work this side of Richard Thompson."  We didn't even know that his most current work, "Able Baker Charlie and Dog," had been named the "CD of the Year" by the International Folk Alliance. We did know that we really, really liked what we had heard, and we wanted to hear more.  So we did - and knew that he needed to be added immediately to PocoNotes' growing roster.

We realize that many - okay, most - of you haven't, as yet, heard of Joe.  We can assure you that that is not the case elsewhere and, in fact, he has played everywhere from the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival to The Kennedy Center and has left a growing fan base in his wake.  So, this is your opportunity to catch up when he travels into Scranton for his NEPA debut performance.  You'll be reminded of what we have been saying from the beginning...PocoNotes always - and only - puts on a great show!

Pat Flynn and John Smith

These are two of NEPA's most highly-regarded musicians, who many of you will readily recognize as the guitarist and vocalist for one of the area's hottest - nationally-touring bands, Underground Saints.  However, if you've seen them perform as a duo, you know that they give one of the most powerful and memorable performances you will ever see.  We know - because this is their PocoNotes encore performance.

The Hosts...

It's always been our hope that other like-minded folks would join us in our quest to make a positive difference in the world.  So, it was exciting - and humbling - to be approached by Maureen Duffy, one of the finest human beings we know, to do just that.  This savvy business woman with a highly successful venture of her own, Duffy Accessories, is bringing her sense of style, her love of all things "Scranton" and her staunch support of the arts to join us on our journey to make the world a kinder place - one amazing event at a time.

The Tickets...

Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door and include wine, beer and hors d'oeuvres.  With only 100 available for sale...and half of them already gone, please be sure to stop in to see Maureen at 218 Linden Street to get yours now.  If you'd prefer, you can support our local ticket partner, www.NEPATickets.com by purchasing them on-line.  You can also call us at (888) 800-POCO or Maureen at (570) 941-0411 and ask that a few be held for you...at the advance price.

The Charity...

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to St. Francis of Assisi Kitchen, a local food pantry whose food supplies have dwindled to dangerously low levels during the recent lull in the economy.  We're also requesting additional contributions of canned goods, which will be collected at the event and passed along on your behalf.

The After-Event...

We're taking the party to an after-show event at Trax at the Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel for a "Meet and Greet" with the artists and a jam session for everybody.  So...bring an instrument and join us!  Or...join us anyway.  Rumor has it that there will be a tambourine or two - and even a guitar and mandolin - available to be shared.

That's it...those are the details.  If you'd like to know more - because there's always more, you can visit us at www.PocoNotes.com or give either PocoNotes or Duffy Accessories a call and hear the latest.

We look forward to seeing you on March 20th.  Be sure to say hello.  Until then...let's all be good to each other, keep supporting live music, and doing our part for peace in 2010 - but not necessarily in that order!
