PocoNotes Newsletter 2008-2: March 1, 2008

Hello again!

With Spring a mere three weeks away, we felt that it was time to catch up with you...and to tell you about some great music that's coming your way.

To start, our good friends at Jibberjazz Productions are hosting
Some Kind of Jam 3 on  April 25-27, 2008.  This event will feature three daysofcamping and 23 bands at a site that is wedged between the scenic mountains of the Lehigh Valley and features two stages - an  outdoorstage that rests beneath a huge pavilion and extends over the audience and an  indoor stage inside a spacious banquet hall for a more intimate experience.  They're offering all of this for the incredible pre-sale ticket price of $30.

For more information about SKOJ 3, look Jon and his crew up at
Jibberjazz Productions and Jibberjazz on MySpace.  It won't take you long to understand why it was our pleasure to pass this information along on their behalf.  In fact, the first page of their website has a quote that is worth reading - and heeding.  It's with this philosophy that Jibberjazz puts together their events...and why they've quickly outgrown their previous location.  We'll be on the West Coast that weekend...becoming 'parents-in-law'...so we're relying on you to tell us all about it, okay?

As for us...well, three must be a lucky number...because 2008 is PocoNotes'  third season of bringing good music and good people together.  This year, we'll be concentrating on our "Hear 'Em..." series, which is the vehicle we've chosen to attract instructors from Jorma Kaukonen's Fur Peace Ranch Guitar Camp into "neighborhoods" throughout  Northeastern Pennsylvania.  We're huge fans of Jorma Kaukonen - as a human being and a musician, and are hoping to bring just a bit of the magic that he and Vanessa - and John and Vicki and Thunder Mike - have created at Fur Peace Ranch into our own little corner of the world.

The location that we've found for our 2008 shows - in reality, found us.  It's the Waverly Community House, which is - from our perspective - just another of Lackawanna  County's many hidden gems.  Working together with the wonderful people at The Comm, we feel that we can do something very special for the area's residents and visitors.  They're already doing so many good things...PocoNotes is just 'putting it to music!'  Come out and see us all in action...with the 2008  four-event line-up for our "Hear 'Em at The Comm" series:

April 12:  Patrick Sweany...with Clarks Summit's own Billy Rogan opening the show -  still in the process of healing after his tragic "birthday" skiing accident on New Year's Eve

June 28:  Toby Walker...with Scranton's own Charles Havira

September 13:  Spencer Bohren...with the amazing Pat Flynn

November 9:  Roy Book Binder...with Scranton's own Young Geezers

The tickets for these shows were designed by the lovely and talented Jess Hine, who is also the creative mind behind the artwork that, we hope, now "brands" our "Hear 'Em..." series.  With the skill of our friend, Nate at Spencer Printing, they are truly keepsakes of these events and will be available for sale...today...for a mere $20 each ($25 at the performance) and are available either through PocoNotes or Waverly Community House.  Hurry though, really - only 100 tickets will be be available for sale to  each event!

But...that's not all!  With the support of a Lackawanna County Arts and Cultural Grant, which is a program of the Lackawanna County Commissioners and the Lackawanna County Council on the Arts, Education and Culture, each of these events will feature not only an evening musical performance but also an afternoon workshop.  So, this is an especially incredible opportunity to get a very personal glimpse of these guitar masters doing what they love...in a neighborhood near you!  Each workshop is currently in the process of being designed by the respective artist...and information is starting to trickle in - so call us and we'll give you all of the details that we have so far.  Bear in mind, all of the workshops will be limited as well - in some cases, to a mere 8 students.  It just doesn't much more intimate -  or better - than that!

So, for a good idea as to who we plan to bring to town...sooner than later, go to Jorma Kaukonen's Fur Peace Ranch Guitar Camp and look at their list of instructors.   These are artists that will entertain you for a single evening...and impact you for the rest of your life!

That's it for now...except for a very special thank you to Chris Hughes of The Abington Journal for his incredible support of our efforts...from the very beginning of our adventure.  It's the people that we've met along the way that have made this journey so special for us.  Take a minute to see the "Good people, good music" article and awesome photo of Patrick Sweany that was an 'Abington Journal...Exclusive" on February 27th.

So, until we meet again, please be good to each other...and keep on supporting live music.  Musicians at all levels of notoriety deserve the respect...and, as always, have ours.

For more information...about anything we've mentioned, come see us at PocoNotes.com and
PocoNotes' MySpace Page.  Even better, give us a call at (888) 800-POCO.  We'd love to hear from you!  Hopefully, we'll see you on April 12th to help us show these musical guests a warm welcome.  Be sure to stay for the "Meet and Greet" afterward so that we can say hello to you properly!

Until then - Peace... really!

Dolores & Pat
