PocoNotes Newsletter 2007-5: September 1, 2007

How did it ever get to be Labor Day Weekend so quickly?!

Before Summer slips away entirely, we wanted to take a moment to thank all  of you that helped to make ours such a memorable one.  While everyone commemorated this  40-year anniversary of the Summer of Love in a way that mattered to them...for us, it was living the vibe that was most compelling.

So much of what is happening in the world today was the fabric of our lives four decades ago when we were still so young and impressionable and, best of all, idealistic.  With your help, we were able to feel just that young and idealistic once again.  It sure did help to have Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady , two of the most awesome musicians of  the 60's, take the stage at The Mellow Theater and return all of us to that earlier time...if only for one special evening.  Even they couldn't do it alone...and brought Barry Mitterhoff , Erik Diaz and  Oteil and The Peacemakers along to help - for two of the most incredible days of our lives.  Without a doubt, they'll each be back and will, once again, bring some incredible musicians with them.

Since it's never too early to prepare, we would like to start by asking you to help us grow our mailing list.  While JamBase, radio spots and local entertainment newspapers are great ways to let people know what we're up to, the very best way is you !  In fact, we know that we simply could not have filled  600 seats on a Tuesday night in July without you!  So, help us again...this time by forwarding this newsletter to just one or two people that you like - and that you think would like to know - before everyone else - some of what we're doing and who we're doing it with.  Remember, it's about bringing good music and good people together.  Each one needs the other...and we certainly need them both!

As a reminder to some of you and an enticement to others, I'll tell you that we received an e-mail yesterday from HotTunaTunes.com .  To our delight, the Hot Tuna Electric show at The Mellow Theater on July 24th was deemed one of the best of their recent electric tour and selected for publication - and sale - on their site.  So, you can re-live that night with us by purchasing the entire show for a mere $9.95 for an mp3 version and $12.95 for flac.

As a further note, their encore of Genesis was the very first time this song had ever been performed by their  quartet formation.  In fact, the set list that was written before the show - and which is now framed and hangng in our dream room, listed The Water Song, another favorite of ours, as the evening's encore.  However, they felt so comfortable with you - the audience - that they decided to leave the beaten path...and what a good choice that was!  You see, it is about you!

We'd be remiss if we didn't give a special  nod to Roy Book Binder and Robert Bobby , who braved the launch of our new music series, Hear 'Em at The Hideout , with us recently.  Its goal is to bring nationally-acclaimed musicians and local artists together in an intimate listening environment so that they can be given some exposure to an audience that would not have ordinarily been given an opportunity to hear them.  The key to its success is having people give these musicians a chance to be heard.  With our growing reputation for quality, more and more people now know that we will always - and only - put on an awesome show!  With an absolute commitment of respect for all concerned - performers, audience and venue...it just doesn't get much better than that!  Except, perhaps, to say that Roy has already asked for an encore performance - on a date that is yet to be determined...but certainly will be!

That's it for now.  Have a safe holiday weekend.  Get out and enjoy some live music.  Take a chance on a new musician - local or otherwise; you just may find out they're terrific!

Peace!
