PocoNotes Newsletter 2007-2: April 24, 2007

Hello again!

We are in the midst of preparing for an eventful July 24 th when we have the honor of hosting Hot Tuna Electric and Oteil and the Peacemakers in beautiful downtown Scranton! But we just thought that we would check in with you to catch you up with some of what we've been doing.

We're pretty proud that our Hot Tuna Fan Club Pre-Sale tickets SOLD OUT in 14 days. More importantly, we are excited about making a difference in the music scene in Northeastern PA. Remember, it's our goal is to have musicians who are touring in New York City and Philadelphia add Scranton to their itinerary - again and again! The best way to do that is to show the world that NEPA knows good music when they hear it! Right?!

There's been some great buzz about Vanessa and Jorma Kaukonen's Fur Peace Ranch , which is now in it's 10th year of providing guitar instruction to all levels of pluckers on the most luscious 119 acres of Southeast Ohio land that you can imagine. If you haven't already seen the recent MSNBC article about it, take a look here .

Then, on a snowy, "evacuate non-essential staff" Friday afternoon in March, we spent a warm few hours in the studio at WVIA , our local NPR station, with Erika Funke, the host of "Art Scene." With a heart the size of Nebraska, Erika listened to all of what we had to say about PocoNotes and Hot Tuna and, yes, Fur Peace Ranch. She then turned our ramblings into a wonderful synopsis of who we are, what we're doing, why we're doing it - and why we're doing it with who we're doing it and where. Got it? I didn't think so! Instead, you can listen for yourself: here . She starts the interview by playing "A Life Well Lived" and reading a quote of Jorma's. It's good stuff!

Then, we were interviewed by Glenn Knarr, the General Manager of Shinbone Magazine for the May issue of this brand new Pennsylvania -wide entertainment publication. So, if you're anywhere near a border of our fine state, please be sure to pick up a copy. (Not only will you get to read a bit about us, you'll also see how my self-tutoring on Paint Shop Pro is going - because I'm pleased to say that I created three of the four ads that will also be appearing in that issue.) But...if you can't get here from there, let us know and we'll be sure to send you a copy. Hey...there's nothing wrong with shameless self-promotion. We're working hard to give HTE and O&TP a rousing welcome to Northeastern Pennsylvania. In fact, we're committed to having Scranton be far more than a blur on a tour itinerary. So, a lot of thought is being put into showing them some of the things - and people - that make our area so special!

It's too late to promise that I'll keep this short, but I would be remiss if I did not mention to you that we will be participating in the April 22 nd Multiple Sclerosis Walk in Nay Aug Park in Scranton . It's a bit of a change from our typical 12.5 mile jaunt through the streets of Manhattan for this event. But it's time for us to get to know more of our neighbors. So, say a prayer to the weather gods that Sunday is sunny and dry...or cloudy and dry - as long as it's - dry! The walk is free, but the feeling that we will get from doing a good thing will be - as they say - priceless.

Lastly, we are hoping to recruit a few kind souls to help us distribute some of our 500 - yes, I did say 500 - concert posters. The plan is to let everyone within a solid 100-mile radius of The Mellow Theater know that Hot Tuna Electric and Oteil and the Peacemakers will be plugging in to The Electric City . It will, without a doubt, be a night of history in the making at The Mellow Theater. So, if you'd like to help with a territory of your very own , I can assure you that the work is hard and the pay is bad...but then you can feel just like us ! How about it?!

Okay, that's it! But, for more information on the event, the artists, the venue or PocoNotes, go to PocoNotes.com or, if you'd prefer, call us at (888) 800-POCO .
See you on July 24th ...if not before! In the meantime, be good to each other!

Peace!
