It’s hard to believe that in a few short weeks, the summer of 2006 will officially be “one for the books.” For us, it was an incredibly exciting time that was filled to the brim with lots of action-packed adventure. As Pat says, our “how we spent our summer vacation” composition is going to take us hours to write. How lucky are we??!!
Since we last spoke, Pat and I traveled by car out to Jorma and Vanessa Kaukonen's FurPeaceRanch in Pomeroy, Ohio, for their annual – and our first - “Couples Weekend.” This is actually a misnomer because I spent less time with him during those four days than I typically do since we live together, commute together and run a business together. However, we did spend a great deal of time if not by ourselves than certainly with ourselves.
For Pat, who was enrolled as a student in Jorma’s Level 3 finger picking guitar workshop, it meant ‘fessing up in front of one of the guitar masters of the universe as to where he was in his playing ability and finding out a bit of what it would take for him to get to where he would like to be.
For me…I mean after I finally realized that the weekend was as much about me as it was about him, it meant putting aside my two brand new novels...and my plans for sitting all alone under a tree reading them - and allowing myself - instead - to luxuriate in some incredible personal time with the lovely and talented Vanessa Kaukonen and about 25 other wonderful women from all over the United States.
The depth of my experience at FPR truly defies description and can only be diminished by any further attempt to summarize it here. So, I’ll let it suffice to say that it was a wonderful reminder of what those 60’s were all about and how the “hippie vibe” is just a state of mind that can readily be revitalized in each and every one of us…each and every day…no matter who you are or where you live.
Onward! What are we going to do as an encore to our “From NOLA To NEPA” Benefit Concert For New Orleans Musicians you ask? Well, we’ve been giving it lots of thought and are putting some ideas together. But, as we’ve said from the beginning, PocoNotes will only put on a terrific show. So…once we’ve decided for certain who, what, when and where fill this order perfectly, you’ll be the first to know. You won’t have to wait long…I promise…really…! It’s on the list – right after we finish our composition.
